Launceston is the social, cultural and economic heart of northern Tasmania. The city and surrounding areas are experiencing rapid population and tourism growth.

As a result, traffic congestion is beginning to surface in the Greater Launceston area, particularly during the morning and afternoon peaks.

Six Greater Launceston councils, with support from the Tasmanian Government, are asking for the community’s thoughts on a Transport Vision and Work Plan, which have been developed to improve the way people move around Launceston.

While we believe these documents provide a solid base to work from, we want to see a long-term, 30-year vision for Greater Launceston that looks at not just congestion, but public and active transport, future mobility and urban planning, as well as social and economic impacts.

With the help of an expert panel, stakeholder organisations and the community, we’ll be making a submission to the six councils that represents the long-term priorities of our members and other Tasmanians.
